$ID Variable

The $ID variable is replaced by a 32 byte string that uniquely identifies the machine the Toolbar is running on.

The intended use of this variable is to give toolbar developers the ability to provide a range of user level customization options.
This could include user specific features, custom layout styles or skins.

Remarks:

  • The $ID value is derived by hashing a key based on several machine specific parameters such as the MAC address and the volume serial number.
  • For privacy reasons, it is not possible to derive these values from the $ID value.

Disclaimer:

Statistically a very small chance exists that two machines may resolve to the same $ID value.

Compatibility:

Requires ToolbarBrowser version 2.1.1 or later.
